When are you supposed to replace the timing belt on a 2000 Saturn SL1? How much does it cost to have it replaced?

Hey, I am another Saturn owner of a 2002 SL2, last time I was at the mechanics they told me at approx. 100,000 miles the chain would need to be replaced. (100 - 110K)

When I asked how much (here in NYC) they told approx. $600. - $700. which was supposed to be a deal since the dealer was to charge about a thousand. But I guess you can start inquirying for prices in your area.
