Tensioner problems

I have a 1996 saturn SL1 with 130,000 miles, and a 1.9 liter engine.

My problem is a loose serpentine belt. I think the spring is broken on the tensioner, or I have a loose pulley somewhere. What I can't figure out the size of the bolt on the tensioner. Is there a special wrench needed? The tensioner seems ok though I tried moving it with a screwdriver and it didn't budge. Should I get a small belt, hook it up to the crankshaft and water pump and drive it to the dealer?

thanks,

Hey crazy,
If I remember you need a 10 or 12 mm wrench. Put the wrench on the bolt in the middle of the tensioner pulley and try loosening it. It won't loosen but will let you feel and release the spring tension on the serp belt.

Chances are it is bad. Not to hard to replace and it can be purchased at most auto parts store. I can link you to detailed instructions if you like. Your local shop should be more than able to handle this repair also.

Good luck and let us know. :)
