recently had the clutch replaced, and new tires installed. Going down the road above 25-30 mph sounds like an airplane. Will go away with lane change or road turn to left. Is this my wheelbearing? It is cold and wet here in WI and hate to rotate tires to trouble shoot if this isnt the cause. Noise is constant driving straight or in left hand turn.

Thanks look forward to your thoughts!

What to check next

Diagnostic guidance. Suggested checks and possible repairs are separate from the owner's reported results.

Clarify whether the bearings were replaced and whether the originally reported noise subsequently stopped.

Discussion summary

Sounds like an airplane

The owner of a 2000 SL2 reported an airplane-like noise above about 25 to 30 mph after recent clutch work and new tires. The description of how left turns affected the noise was inconsistent. In a follow-up, the owner reported that both front wheel bearings were going bad and described roughness and noise when examining them.

Reported outcome: The owner reported a finding involving both front wheel bearings, but did not explicitly confirm a completed replacement or disappearance of the road noise.

The bearing finding is the owner’s report. No post-repair result was provided. The sequence of earlier clutch and tire work does not establish that either caused the problem.
