sevice engine soon and tranny slipping

I just bought a 1997 Saturn SL1, 126000 miles, DOHC, I am having the same problem now, the dealership told me the transmission is electronically controlled by the computer and the codes are suppose to give a possible answer. They did not mention anything about diodes for the transmission. Would like to know if your problem is the same for me!
