Erratic fuel gauge

I have a SL 1993, 4 cyl 1.9, 5 speeds. 102000 miles

The fuel gauge does a weird measurement, it tells me when the tank is full, half way and 1/4 only. Nothing in between.

I think it could be that the wires measuring the level are rusted and do not have a good reading, will a fuel additive for rust and water help?

P.D. I am still pending to change the ECTS on my car like you said. Will let u know what happened.

Hey L,
The gauge works with two electromagnets pulling the needle in opposite directions. The magnets are regulated by the amount ground. I E one magnet has ground full time while the other magnet has limited ground.

I will send you a link for a procedure to rectify that condition. It is simple and I would try it before anything else.
