I have a 1997 saturn sl 1 with 122,000 miles. I have been having problems with the clutch in that it squeaks every time I press it, specially on stop and go traffic. I have taken it to the mechanic on different ocassions and he says theres nothing wrong with it. How can I get rid of that annoying problem?

thank you!!

do you mean when you go to engage it? or when you depress the pedal? if its when you engage it and the mechanic says the clutch disks are ok have him check your belts for signs of glazing its possible with the load you put on the engine it makes the belts squeak.... if its when you just depress the pedal, are you sure it just isnt the pedal rack near your feet....good luck :)

Suggested Repair

Determine whether the squeak occurs when engaging the clutch or only when depressing the pedal. If it happens on engagement and the clutch discs are fine, have the belts checked for glazing. If it happens only when the pedal is depressed, inspect the pedal mechanism or rack near the driver's feet.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a 1997 Saturn SL1 with 122,000 miles reports a clutch squeak whenever the pedal is pressed, especially in stop-and-go traffic. A mechanic found nothing wrong. The expert asks whether the noise occurs on engagement or pedal depression and suggests checking glazed belts under load or the pedal rack near the feet.
