2000 white smoke

My 2000 saturn SL1 blows white smoke constantly. There's a lot of gunk around the engine, I wonder if that could be a oil leak?!, and if it were would that cause the white smoke?

Hi there,

White smoke is a sign of coolant in the combustion chamber, i would be having a head check done first.
