The light on my dash board of my 2000 SCI shows a low coolant icon but the level seem okay and the car does not overheat even on the hottest days. Could it be a bad sensor?

VERY likely the sensor is bad. I have yet to see the light come on for any other reason that that. Unless the coolant was actually low.

Here is the coolant level sensor so you can replace it, make sure the engine is cold before attempting the repair. You might need to get the entire coolant system reservoir. Check out the images (below). Let us know if you need anything else.
