1998 Saturn engine revving while idealing

I have a 1998 saturn with 200000 miles and recently while idealing my engine would just rev up automatically. but right before the engine revs up i see the coolent temp jump up temporarily. Please if anyone can help, please let me know

I had a similar problem with my 96 Saturn, although instead of my coolant temperature going up, mine would drop all of the way down. Anyway, I replaced the coolant temperature sensor on my car and that corrected the problem.
