1998 Other Saturn Models car muffler

My Saturn shots out black smoke from the muffler and the service light is on what could this problem be?

Hi there,

Black smoke is a sign of over fueling or poor combustion, this may have triggered a 02 sensor fault, have the codes checked, if the engine is running well, there may not be a problem, just the one episode will be enough to set a code.
