My windshiels wiper activate when I start the engine and I have to play witht he lever to get them to stop, but not before they stop several times in various position. In fact when they stop in othe position it seems they would stay there if I did not work the switch to get them to stop in the down pistion. Occassionlly they will activate while driving as well.

Hi wschmitz,
If the wipers don't return to the parked position when switched off, it could be the intermittent relay is faulty.
Self activation could be due to it too.

Hi wschmitz,
I do not know thw exact model of your vehicle so do not know where it should be.
For some models it is incorporated in the wiper control module located under dash.
