2002 Saturn L200 makes a jerking when switching gears

Just recently I changed my battery and since then while driving the rpms will rev and make a jerk when switching gears. Also, the a/c just went out and the car is running hot. I checked all of the fluids in my car and they are where they are supposed to be. I've never had any problems with my car until I changed my battery. What could be wrong?

sounds like the cooling fan is not working. when ac is on the fan is supposed to come on and that also could be the reason for running hot. check that
