2001 Saturn L200 code help

2001 SATURN L200

My car is running funky, with the little service wrench light and service engine soon light comming on/off intermittantly. The computer reads code:
P0440 Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction
What should I look for? Do I need a new gas cap gasket, or is this a serious problem?
i usually need to get parts for 2002 since it is a late model 2001 Saturn wagon.

i usually find that the evap vent solinoid is the problem. the road grime gets inside and the valve sticks
