2003 Saturn Ion odometer cluster replacement

I replaced the sppedo/odometer cluster in my vehicle with a used one as mine was broken. Now the mileage reads "service engine".I was told I need to bring it to have the computer (ecm?) Re-set! My question is? Can I do this myself? Un-hooking the battery?
