2003 Saturn Ion fast idle and stuck accelorator

My car has been idling fast. My foot can be on the brake all the way to the floor and the rpm's are at 2 and i'm going 15-20 miles per hour. Then yesterday I got onto the freeway and I brought the car to 60 mph and it stuck there. My rpm's were around 3 and I could not get the car to slow down. I hit the gas and reved it a few times and I felt a pop in the gas peddle and it released and began to slow down. Please any advice would be so helpful, I have a small child and this is our only mode of transportation. Thank you
