1994 Saturn Astra clutch

Just bought this car from a friend and clutch wont engage.The pedal goes down but remains in neutral????I know this car was babied by women and serviced regularly.Do you think it needs a new clutch or should I check out the hydraulic system?Thanks Jim D.

if your putting your foot on clutch pedal and it's crunching when you try to engage gears or it goes into gear and nothing happens when you release pedal .. then clutch has gone i'm afraid
