I was told by a mechanic that took a look at my car it sounds like there is a problem with the lifters. I think this means my valves need work also. Is that correct? And is it possible for me to remove the top of the engine myself and take it to someone to work on or is this a job for a pro from start to finish?

job for pro ,if your lifter r bad then all u need to replace is only the lifters [all] not one or two ,reason it is very difficult to pin point weak lifter ,so it is recommended to replace all.
