Recently purchase the Saab 900SE after driving home discovered a large red wire running from under the dashboard to the power side of the battery, can you possible tell me if there some major problem with the start system or what are they trying to bypass?

Where does the other end go? It may have been part of a juiced up stereo system. A lot of times people install heavier wires for the stereo, but don't go through the trouble to remove the wire with the rest of the system. If it doesn't go to anything else, that's probably what it is.
