1992 Saab 900 Power steering belt?

Steering problem
1992 Saab 900 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 198,000 miles

Just wanted to know 1. how long can you drive without a power steering belt and 2. can I repair it on my own or is my mechanic going to have to tear the engine compartment apart to get to it.

replace the belt as soon as possible and it's a very simple repair
