Can I just replace the ignition, or do I have to replace the whole security system. If so, can the old system be reprogrammed? This is a very costly repair, and I need alternatives

The key can be extracted.

Take a coping saw blade and grind the blade at one end to a point . You grind off the back of the blade keeping the teeth intact.

Taper the grind over an inch or two long.

The other end tape with duct or electrical tape to use as a handle.

The teeth should be pointed into a pulling direction towards the handle.

Fish the tool into the switch and pull out the broken key.
