I was told by the dealer that since my brake pads were on low wear that both the pads and the rotors needed to be replaced and this is what SAAB requests/requires. I have a feeling that I just got ripped off and that I only need to have the brake pads replaced.

Anytime you replace pads, you should replace rotors. You dont want new pads on old rotors, you will eat up pads. And as far as rotors go, they wear down also. They also get hot cold hot cold hot cold many many times a day. This causes them to warp. Eventually u will feel your brake pedal pulsate. At this point, it can ruin your calipers. Dont skimp on money when it comes to brakes.

Hi,

Replacing front brakes isn't too hard to do. You can expect to get approximately 25,000 miles from a set of pads, but that is based on the driver.

First, here is a link that shows how to replace brakes and rotors in general. You can use this as a guide.

I need to order pads and rotors for all 4 wheels and having a friend/mechanic install.
I found pads and rotors at autozone store but not sure if rear pads have "sensor". Do you know if this is true? Also, I am assuming I do not need to get the expensive rotors with slots. They cost around 117.00 and can get the plain ones for about 60.00 so is this ok? Any other suggestions? Thank you so much.

Yes that is true, saab 93ss rear pads do not have sensor, but note pads with spring goes on the inside, so check install, & frt pads with sensor, sensor most point down to the ground, so again check install.

U will need a #7 allen key type socket & the special tool to reset caliper pistons, if u dont have that then u can use a needle nose pliers if u r strong enough to turn pistons in clockwise, good luck.
