2003 SAAB 9-3 repair Question changing from park to drive

I have just purchased this used car 10 months ago and I do not drive it very much-2nd car-but I had it on a trip last week and It wouldn't go out of park so I noticed a little circle and I used my finger nail and pushed down in this little circle and then I could move the gear into drive. I did this until I got home and It didn't come with manual.

NEED TO KNOW WHICH 9-3 U HAVE IS IT THE NEW BODY STYLE & OLD SE TYPE, VEHICLE CHANGED BODY STYLE THAT YEAR, REPAIRS FOR BOTH R DIFFERENT AS PER YOUR COMPLAINT.

Sounds like u have a bad gear shifter cable, check the cable at the gear box end , if cable comes of link then u need a cable, this happens as the cable gets old due to engine heat & cable connection end been plastic. Post back after u check there is one more thing to check, this part rarely goes bad.
