Welcome to 2CarPros.
This can be a few different issues. First, is the check engine light staying on when the engine runs? Does it come on when power is lost? If it is on, you need to scan the computer for diagnostic trouble codes. Here is a quick video showing how it's done:

I realize most people don't own a scanner, but often times, a parts store will do it for free or rent or lend you a scanner.
Now, the reason I suggest checking for codes is because there are multiple things which can cause this. Components such as a bad crankshaft position sensor, low fuel pressure, partially plugged catalytic converter and the list goes on.
Check that and if you find codes, let me know what they are. Also, if the light isn't on, here are a few links you may find helpful. They discuss fuel pressure testing, symptoms of a bad crankshaft position sensor, how to check a catalytic converter and so on.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions. Also, I will watch for your reply.
Take care,
Joe
