1999 Other Rover Models white/blue smoke from exsaushst

my husbands rover 200 series car in the mornings has some blue/white smoke that comes from the exsaust and it smells strongly of petrol after its been running a while this stops, could you please help with what this could be.

have a compression test of the cylinders carried out .. could be a bad headgasket .. acommon fault on this vehicle !!
