1995 Rover Metro brakes have stopped working

my brakes pedal started to go further down but was still braking then 1 night when i tried to brake there was just nothing there. tried topping up the brake fluid but still not much at all. dont really want to spend big money as its an old first car.

Hello,

When you topped off the brake fluid was it empty or way down?

Have you looked under the vehicle to see if there is any fluid puddles at any of the wheels or anywhere.

If there is a puddle under vehicle then most likely you have a broken brake line.

when i topped it up it was slightly down no puddles or leaks to be seen anywhere

Ok, then most likely you have a failed Brake Master Cylinder. Check out link below, describes replacing Master Cylinder.
