2000 Rover 25 Overheating,Smoke,Smell

2000 Rover 25 Manual

I have a rover 25 just recently its been overheating, there is a thick white smoke coming out of the exhaust and a strange smell like if burning oil, coolant is just disappearing didnt start one day but now is working. Seemed to work fine today but having problems before. What is wrong

have the cylinders compression tested .. suspect headgasket failure !
