Engine stalls and then stops

I have a automatic rover216IE, when I start car it stalls and then stops, then its ok, it usually only does it once but it happened twice yesterday, has anyone got any idea if why this is happening and how to resolve it. Thankyou julie. Xx

have the starter motorchecked it is disengaging correctly
