When I start my car it goes into a rough idle that shakes the entire car, as i am driving i can feel misfires and a hissing noise. i have been told that i may have a vacuum leak or that i need to replace the entire intake.

Very much sounds like a vacuum leak. there are a few ways to check, with the engine idling, spray some brake clean around the manifold, if the revs pick up you have a vacuum leak, or you can use a smoke machine, this will pinpoint the exact point of the leak as you will see the smoke coming from the leak it self.
