I recently had the plugs and wires changed at 99,000 miles. I stopped at a store and the car started with rough idle and did not want to accelerate. After putting around the parking lot for a minute it smoothed out. The day before code 1294 came up with no symptoms. My brother reset the code.

Based on the recent service, the best suspect is a spark plug wire did not get fully seated. If that is caught early enough, the fix can be as simple as pushing it on all the way, but before too long any arcing taking place between the terminal and the spark plug will cause the boot and terminal to be burned away. The carbon tracking left behind will promote future misfires from the spark current being shorted to ground outside the spark plug instead of going through it. At that point it is often necessary to replace the wire and the spark plug. Carbon builds up on the outside of the spark plug too and will cause future misfires.
