I just recently replaced the IPR valve and ICP sensor and I am getting 2 DTCs P1284 and P1211. It will start up right away and run fine for about 5 seconds then the check engine light pops on and starts to run really rough. And when you touch the gas pedal it will go from about 500 RPMs to over 1,500 instantly even if you slightly touch it. Could there be air in the system still?

Changes ae the high-pressure oil pump has gone out, does the engine have the correct amount of oil in it? If so, then suspect the HPOP. Low oil level or insufficient oil pressure.
High-pressure oil pump issues.

P1284 - ICP (Injection Control Pressure) Circuit Low
P1211 - ICP (Injection Control Pressure) Not Controllable / Pressure Above or Below Desired

Here is how to change the HPOP out which should fix the problem. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.

I just bought this truck. I just recently changed the oil and hoop gasket and that’s when this started happening. I knew before that the oil was really low and I’m not sure what viscosity was used prior. I am using 15w40 now, so you think it’s the hpop that’s bad now? It was leaking a crap Ron of oil out of the gasket but now it’s not.

Are you saying the HPOP is new? It might be defective; I know they had problems with them. Also, I would change the oil if it has not been done in a while.

Type: 15W-40 Diesel Engine Oil
Specification: API CK-4/SN or CJ-4/SN (or newer)

Let us know how it goes.

The HPOP is not new but I changed the gasket and o rings and ipr. When I start the truck it will idle rough for about a minute or so then smooth out. It always starts like this now even when it’s warm it will start rough. But if it’s warm it will smooth out in like 20 seconds. The check engine light only comes on once in a while.

Yep, this is what a worn out HPOP does. You can send the pump in for testing at a rebuilder to be sure.
