Each caliper has two bolt seals on the rotor side, ie not the bolt head end that will not come out in one piece, it just shreds. Can not get it all out, scraping and or pliers will not work. How do I get the remaining pieces out? The seals seem to be fussed to the inside of the "tube" opening they are in. Managed to get 99% of first one out but second one has more remaining at the moment.

A second problem seems to be that the new seals in the kit do not slide into the opening of even the 99% clean one. This was a dry fit as I have not installed the inner o-rings, grease yet. I was trying to see if they would fit into the less cleaned out hole as I have come to a stand still on getting any more out. I assume if everything is cleaned out and greased I will have better luck putting things back together.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good afternoon.

Those o-rings or sals keep the environment out of the tubes. Rust is the biggest issue.

What I suggest is to use a brush on a drill to get in all the way into the tube to clean it out and to get the rest of the debris out of the tube.

I would also consider replacing the pins as well.

Can you post some pictures of what you see?

Thank you for the reply, I will look for an appropriate brush for a drill. I am concerned that if metal brushes are all I can find, using one may damage the caliper as well as get the seal remains out. Just to be clear the o-rings are pliable and easy to remove as were the bolt head covers.

My problem is with the seal at the end of the tube closest to the rotor. Here is two pictures of the worst one and one of the other. I have not tackled the other side as not sure how this will work out.

Wow, lot of rust in there. Surprised you even got the bolts out.

You have a lot of cleaning to do with that. Dig out the old o-rings and clean out that hole with a brush and electric drill. That needs to be done to get all the crud out of there.

It will take time but will save you the money of replacing the caliper.
