The transfer case starts roaring when you hit 45 mph under load but not when your in 4 wheel low!

We need to determine which transfer case you have. Do you have 2WD, 4x4 part time and full time and then Lo ranges?

Maybe just get a picture of the shifter and I will be able to determine which one you have or if you want to post the last eight of your VIN, I will look it up.

More then likely this is a bearing noise as when you shift to 4 Lo it diverts the power flow through a different shaft inside the transfer case. So if this noise is coming from the transfer case then more then likely it is going to need to be replaced so we just need to make sure it is coming from there.

Once we know what case you have we can figure out next steps to confirm this.

It's a full time 4x4 with High and Low range.

Okay. Any chance you just replaced a tire? Due to you have a full time transfer case, you all four tires need to remain the same circumference.

If they are not then the transfer case can start to make noise or chatter. Normally a roaring noise is a bearing so the fact that this goes away, I suspect the input bearing to the transfer case is making noise. When you put it Lo range, the progressive coupling clutch is fully engaged which can put pressure on the bearing to quite it down.

Unfortunately if this noise is coming from the transfer case, I suspect the only fix is to have it rebuilt or replaced. Any internal issues like this are not easy repairs. Let me know what questions you have. Thanks
