Hello, I have bought the car listed above. During the test drive the guy gave the car gas and drove great no issues. The day after I picked the car up I was driving in a 45 mph zone when I gave the car gas to speed up to 55 mph I lost all power to the wheels and the car revs up to about 5,000 rpm's causing me to pull over and wait for the rpm's to lower. This has happened a few times on two occasions the car shut off and I had to restart it. Any ideas on what this could be? Thank you in advanced.

Hi,

When this happens, does the vehicle seem to be in neutral? If so, have you noticed if the gear indicator light is showing the correct position?

Also, is the check engine light staying on when the engine is running? Have you checked the transmission fluid to make sure it is clean and full?

Here are directions for checking level:

___________________

NOTE: In order to get an accurate fluid level reading, the vehicle should be on a level surface. Idle the engine to reach the normal operating temperature. Using the scan tool, verify that the transaxle is at normal operating temperature 60°C-70°C (140°F-158°F), prior to adjusting the transmission fluid level.

If fluid needs to be added, add fluid in 0.25L (1/2 pint) increments through the fluid fill plug located on the top of the transaxle near the fluid level indicator. Do not overfill the fluid. Install the fluid level indicator back in the fluid filler tube until it is fully seated, then remove the indicator. The fluid level should be at the upper most mark on the fluid level indicator. Only fill to the upper most mark on the fluid indicator. Do not overfill. Damage to the transaxle will occur.

11. NOTE: The correct transmission fluid at normal operating temperature of 60°C-70°C (140°F-158°F) is between the top 2 marks on the fluid level indicator.

Fill the transaxle to the correct fluid level.

12. NOTE: The correct transmission fluid level at cool operating temperature of 15°C-25°C (59°F-77°F), is at the bottom mark on the fluid level indicator.

If the transmission fluid temperature is low, fill the fluid to the cold range on the fluid level indicator. Recheck the fluid level when the transaxle has reached the normal operating temperature.

Next, if the fluid is clean and full, I recommend having the can bus system scanned. CAN stands for computer area network. All computers and modules are tied together via a few wires. By scanning the system, any and all trouble codes should appear. Here is a video showing how it's done:

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,
Joe

The check engine light does not stay on when the car is running. I haven’t noticed the gear it’s in. I will check the transmission fluid again as I checked it over when I got the car and it looked good to me. I haven’t driven the car in a month or two due to the issue.

Hi,

Check it to make sure it is okay. Also, confirm the gear indicator is indicating the correct gear.

Let me know what you find.
