Reverse will not work

was accelerating and heard/felt something give and chattering started, and engine would rev but not accelerate. I slowed very gradually then shifted to 1, 2 and drive and the engine would pull in forward gears without the chatter. I then put the engine in reverse and the chattering started and would not work in reverse.

Hi,

It sounds like what is called the reaction sun gear housing has failed. I attached an exploded view of the component I'm referring to.

Here is what I suggest. Drain and remove the transmission fluid and remove the transmission oil pan.

There is a magnet in the pan. See if there are any metal shavings attached to it.
