Reverse will not engage

The reverse will not engage unless the transmission is cold. Not sure if it is a solenoid issue or what. Do not want to take it in and pay a fortune if it is something simple.

first thing is to see if there are any codes in the transmission. check oil and make sure level and oil condition is okay. report back if you have any codes, and you can get some on car diagnosis done at a transmission repairer, ring your local shop and see what they charge for a diagnosis report.
