reverse will not engaging

transmission will not engage in reverse position, forward is okay. Four wheel drive is not working and there is (four wheel drive system is not functioning) DTC. one mechanic said it is transfer case motor or the sensor in motor. two transmission repair centers said without testing or looking: it requires overhaul - just because I said it is not engages. Note: there is like shushing sound when try to engage in reverse.

Yep if there is a noise and it wont go into reverse then something could have broke inside the transmission. But first check the fluid level and all of the fuses.

Also scan the PCM for codes to make sure it is not a turbine sensor.
