Re did top end gaskets an seals on my 351 w. Pulled e4od transmission changed fluid in converter an dropped transmission pan. New filter new gasket. New fluids in transmission an motor. Put everything back together. Start the engine place gear selector in reverse to back out of drive way. Thumbs up it's good. Place gear selector in drive an nothing. Place gear selector in 1 truck takes off. What am I missing?

Good morning,

Was there any debris in the pan and on the magnet when you dropped the pan?

This transmission has the worse reputation with Ford on there trucks. They only used it a couple of years and then went to the 4R100 as a replacement.

As far as the engagement issue it sounds like the forward clutch pack is not working.

Did you let it sit and idle for about 20 minutes prior to trying to move it?

I attached a flow chart for the issue but you will need a pressure gauge to test main line pressure to be sure the proper pressure is being delivered.

After getting the timing correct on the motor yes but only about 5 minutes. Yes some sludge on magnet.

Okay, you can do the pressure tests I posted but it sounds like you lost the forward clutch pack.

I do not recommend replacing it with the same. They offered a C6 as an option for the truck and that is what I would use.
