Have a 1500. I swapped the rear axle because it went bad. The old axle had 3.21 gear ratio. The replacement axle has 3.92 gear ratio. I know the truck has to be reprogrammed for the new gear ratio.

Am I causing any damage driving the truck "un-programmed" to mechanic to have it reprogrammed?

Thanks
Matt

You should be fine.

Basically, it is like you installed smaller tires on it.

You will have better pulling power, but you are going to lose some gas mileage due to the lower gearing even after it is reprogrammed to the new ratio.
