If you remove the engine it can be lifted out the top with a cherry picker ..

If you taking out the trans mission you take it out the side through the wheel well somtime you will ne ti drop the suburban onl on one side maybe an inch or two fir extra space to get the tansmission out but yiu won't have to remove it completely

( Heres a Side note) it may seem like more work to you to get the subframe out but many times its acually more convenient to just drop it egine transmission and all and split them when its out in the open and on the ground its better somtimes ...theres alot of mechanics that acually prefer it done that way ..good luck hope this helps.

As Mechtrix said, they do have a way to remove it without dropping the entire cradle, but it is more work overall. The basics are that you use an engine support on the engine to hold it in place, but you still end up unbolting just about everything else so you can drop the cradle enough that the transmission can be slid out. Time wise dropping the entire cradle is about 9 hours while using the support bar and removing only the CVT books around 11 hours.

am thinking remove engine and transmission is easier. What did you guys think? I removed a lot worse cars, mainly German and other Japanese motors. Do you think these have one plug for all the connectors that goes to the ECU so I won't have to unplug most wires?
