I have the car listed above LT model. I’ve replaced the throttle body 4 times! The first time it happened I was experience stalling, jerking, loss of acceleration, etc. Eventually my check engine light came on and I went to the mechanic and got the code read and the code was P2135. The mechanic told me that it was the throttle body so I got it replaced and then a few months later my check engine light comes on again and had the same problems.
I took it to another mechanic and surely enough he told me the same thing so I replaced it along with the accelerator pedal. And then a few months later my engine light comes on again with the same problems. I went back to the mechanic who replaced it before which was in and he said that the part was defective and fortunately I had warranty on the part so he replaced it and that was in February 2021 and everything was good. Not even 2 months later and the check engine light is on. I went to a different mechanic on 04/22/2020 and he read the codes and it was the same P2135. He said that it was the accelerator pedal and or the throttle body so I get the pedal replaced again and literally the next day my check engine light is on. I have had 4 different throttle bodies and accelerator pedals in a span of a year, I don’t think that’s normal. I’ve spent so much money and I don’t think I can afford to get the throttle body replaced again! I intend on going back to the mechanic, but if anyone has had the same problem or knows anything please help! What could be the problem? I’m at my wits end.

Hi,

No, that isn't normal. I have a few questions. First, when the code was identified, were any additional diagnostic performed, or was the throttle body just replaced? There are wiring issues that can cause that code. For it to be set, the correlation between sensor 1 and sensor 2 has to be off at least 5% for one second. With that in mind, any intermittent voltage variation can cause the issue.

I'm not saying the throttle body isn't bad. It could be. However, there are other things to check first.

Can you tell me the following information?

1) Is the new TB a factory new part?

2) Do you know if this vehicle has variable valve timing (VVT)?

3) Was the accelerator pedal position sensor replaced with a factory part?

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe

Thank you so much for replying! There were no other diagnostics performed except for the code reading.

1) Yes the TB is a factory part.
2) I’m not sure if it has VVT.
3) Yes the pedal was replaced with a factory part.

Like you, I find it hard to believe the TB has gone bad this many times. I'm not saying it isn't possible, but a little hard to believe.

By any chance, do you know if there were any other codes set? I'm asking because it will help us determine if there is a short, loss of power, or excessive resistance in the wiring.

If you look at the pic below, it shows other codes that may have been set. Each indicates a possible cause. For example, a P0222 along with P2135 would indicate there is excessive resistance in sensor 2 (APP). That could simply be a loose connection or corrosion in one of the connectors.

Let me know. I have the diagnostics for the code. If you feel comfortable performing the checks, I'll be happy to send them to you.

Let me know.

Joe

Thank you again! As of now the only code that’s is coming up is P2135 throttle/pedal position sensor/Switch A/ B voltage correlation. I’m taking it back to the mechanic so if any other codes come up I will put it in my next reply. I really hope it’s just a wiring issue.

Hi,

I would think it is a wiring issue. I don't see how 4 of them went bad so fast.

If you have a chance, let me know the outcome.

Take care,

Joe
