Still overheating in summer. Haven't done anything this winter. Replaced stepper motors in gauges last year. Replaced thermostat.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros

I need a bit more information. First, does it overheat if you are driving at highway speeds or only in stop and go traffic? Next, is it losing coolant? When it overheats, does steam come from the engine area?

Let me know.

Joe

Only in warmer days. Highway and stop and go. Fluid 2" down in radiator at times. Reservoir stays full. No visible leaks. No steam. Don't let it get that hot. Smells hot. Okay in cooler weather.

Welcome back:

It could be a few things. My first suspect is the fan clutch is bad and not drawing enough air through the radiator. Take a look through this link:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/fan-clutch-symptoms

If you determine that is the problem, here are the directions for replacing it. The attached picture correlates with the directions,

Fan Clutch Replacement

Removal Procedure

See Picture 1

1. Remove the cooling fan and shroud.
2. Remove the push-pin and release the fan clutch electrical connector from the fan shroud.
3. Remove the fan clutch from the fan shroud.
4. Remove the bolts retaining the fan blade to the fan clutch.
5. Separate the fan blade from the fan clutch.

Installation Procedure

See Picture 1 again

1. Assemble the fan blade to the fan clutch.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the 4 bolts to the fan blade.
Tighten the bolts to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the fan clutch to the fan shroud.
4. Install the push-pin to the fan clutch electrical connector.
5. Install the cooling fan and shroud.

If the fan seems to be fine based on the link I gave you, I recommend trying to drain, flush, and refill the cooling system to see if that helps. You may have a partially plugged radiator. Here is a link showing how that is done:

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,
Joe
