press in the black button in order to get the car out of park?

Have to press in the black button in order to get the car out of park .replaced brake light switch three times and lights would work for a short time before quitting again.

Hello,

It sounds like the interlock control cable has gone out causing the shifter not to move. This problem can be either at the ignition switch or at the shifter you must take it apart to look and see whats going on.

Here are some diagrams that will help you get the job done, (below)

Back at the same mechanic today who said he cut the wires going to the brake switch and that there was a burn in them causing it to short out and causing brake lights not to come on, which of course it won't come out of gear if the brake switch is not getting good connection. Hope this fixes the problem...replaced brake light switch 3 times now.
