Replaced blown fuse, several issues followed?

Several weeks ago, the cigarette lighter fuse blew. I replaced it and confirmed the cigarette lighter now works. After replacing that fuse, several other issues followed.

The following no longer work: radio, clock, audio beeping when seatbelt is not on, locking/unlocking via key fob (arming car), interior overhead lights, and the OBD2 port. Additionally, when I turn the car on, the speedometer and tachometer abruptly move towards 12 o'clock, oscillate around it for a few seconds, and then return to their starting positions.

I have tested almost every fuse in both the instrument panel and under the hood -- I have not yet tested the larger fuses (relays?) Under the hood. I can pull them out and test continuity but am not sure if they are just fuses or are in fact relays. They are categorized as "fuses" in the user manual.

I performed both a visual check and used a multimeter to ensure continuity. I replaced my car battery (it was close to being due).

I would appreciate any guidance regarding the large fuses/relays under the hood and any other suggestions for what to test. Thank you.

Keep in mind, when you check a fuse, it is just as important to confirm there is power to them.

Hi Joe,

I've attached an image of the fuse box under the hood. I know the small ones are fuses. Are the large blocks (black, blue, yellow, and gray) relays?

I tested the fuses related to functions not working for power using a test light and found that the 15A ROOM LP fuse was not receiving power. I swapped it out for a new fuse, but it still received no power.

Hi,

Okay, I had to trace the wiring schematics to locate the power supplies. Ugh LOL I assume the fuse you indicated having no power is in the passenger compartment.

Also, you are correct about the relays.

Now, to get power to the fuse you mentioned, three other fuses or fusible links need to be good. So, I need you to follow this path when checking for power so we can determine where it is lost.

In the passenger compartment fuse box, check fuse 16 for power (pic 1). It allows power to reach the fuse you mentioned.

If fuse 16 doesn't have power, there is a 50-amp fuse in the under-hood fuse box that needs to be checked. (Pic 2 and 3)

If there is no power, then it goes straight back to the battery, so we will need to do things differently at that point (see pic 3).

Remember, when you check for power, it needs to be present on both sides of the fuse when the fuse is connected.

Hi,

No problem whatsoever. If you still have no power to fuse 15, check fuse 13 in the same box. If it has power, then we have an open circuit between the supply and fuse 15. To confirm there isn't an issue before this point, check fuses 4 and 14 for power. They too should have it.

Also, check fuse 25 under the dash. Interestingly, the standard for a power supply on the DLC is to pin 16. On this vehicle, it is pin 9. The power to it is from fuse 25. See pic below.

Hi Joe,

I think there was a misunderstanding above when I said the 15A ROOM LP fuse is receiving no power. That's what the fuse is called in my car handbook. According to your fuse diagram, that is fuse 25.

I found the issue. Not too surprisingly, I was the cause. I was looking at the schematics and saw that fuse 25 connects to the rest of the bus via the power connector. I looked into that to see if I needed a replacement. Found a whole bunch of pictures of the entire passenger fuse box. Sure, enough the power connector was in the wrong orientation. I must have removed it thinking it was the fuse puller when I fixed the original blown fuse and put it back in the wrong orientation. It's all fixed now. Hopefully, this saga helps someone else out in the future. Thanks for all your help!
