Replaced A/c Compressor,

I replaced a/c compressor on my 1996 Cadillac Eldorado, I put ONE can of R134 in the a/c system, the on-board read-out on the dash states: service a/c, and compressor off,

I've disconnected the battery to reset the computer but that change the read-out, reads the same as above.

it needs to be fully charged to have the system come back on line.
