Hello, My car overheated yesterday. A man who assisted me said that it appeared to need to have the thermostat replaced because it appeared to be leaking there. I took it to a mechanic here (Calgary, AB, Canada) and was told the part would cost $114.00 and it would take 1.8 hours to replace at a cost of $290.00 ($264.00 per hour). Total cost to repair is $404. Doesn't this seem high? Since I am a woman I seemed to be taken advantage of and just want to check to see if this seems legit.

By the way when I called to ask cost they chair for labor I was told $125.00 an hour.

Wow! A thermostat for that car here in the US cost around six dollars. As far as the amount of time they need, I would have to know what engine is in the vehicle.
