I tried changing my thermostat but a crossover pipe is in the way.

Good morning.

That is correct. Engineers made a big mistake with that design.

There are two bolts in the front and two bolts in the rear that hold that pipe secure to the manifolds. Remove the bolts and the pipe and will have direct access to the housing.

A shop charges about three hours for this job. Some techs can get there hands in there without removing the pipe but I always removed it to make this repair.

Thank you. I rent a room from my mechanic and he tried last year for a few hours and gave up. Now my car is overheating and it needs replaced. I am a fifty four year old female and wonder if I have a floor jack and tools and a diagram could I do this myself? I have changed thermostats in the past but this is frustrating.

No need for floor jack. This is all done over the drivers side fender.

Not a hard job at all. Just takes time. Remove the cover and the attaching bolts and the pipe comes off. Just take your time and it will go well.

Thank you so much Roy. If he does not get to it by tonight I will attempt to do it myself in the morning. I know he has a million things going on with his girl friend but I have things I have to. Again, thank you very much Roy.
