Engine Mechanical problem
2004 Renault Scenic Manual

I have an 04 Scenic, 1.6 petrol.

The engine started cutting out momentarily while driving. At first I felt the loss of power but didn't really take it in. Then I noticed the engine warning symbol was flicking on too.
Since then I have had the coils replaced, and the battery, but the problem still occurs - I even had to drive from North Wales to London a couple of weeks ago in which time it cut out 4 times! Each time I had to pull across to the hard shoulder and was luckily able to get the engine turning over again as the car drew to a stop.
I can't be sure but it seems like it may happen when I rev to accelerate quickly but then again it seems random.
I have had a number of occasions where the car won't even start. I've just had to leave it and come back later.
The whole thing seems so random.
There was one time, on the drive down the M40 where I noticed that the trip computer had started displaying the 'press the clutch and start button to start the engine' message which you get when you get in the car, yet I was still driving down the motorway. It persisted for about 20 minutes before the engine finally cut out.
I've taken the car to 3 different garages including 2 Official Renault dealers. All have done diagnostics but can't find a fault. I'm at a loss.
The current Renault dealer who has the car says they have found a lose wire that is connected to the computer in some way. They say this 'could' be the problem but it will cost £1500 to replace they can't simply tighten the wire and need to replace the whole unit??!! They are waiting for me to call back and give them the go ahead.
Plus, they say it might not fix the problem!!

I don't know what to do. I've been scouring around online to see if anyone else has had the same issue but to no avail so far.
