2004 Renault Scenic coil failure

I recently suffered a sudden loss of power plus warning lights so called out rescue service who recovered the car to my garage. On inspection they found that two coils had failed and needed replacing.

I have mechanical and electrical breakdown insurance but the company are only offereing to settle part of the claim on the basis they do not accept that two coils could have failed at the same time. I am of course disputing this with them as they have consistently tried to reduce previous claims on such technicalities.

My question is whether failure of two coils maybe at the same time is possible and secondly whether if one I had failed earlier I would have noticed a drop in performance (which I had not). Also is it possible that the failure of one could cause failure of the second in a very short space of time.
