2000 Renault Scenic Loud Metallic Rattling noise from engin

Renault Scenic Alize DTi - very loud metallic rattling sound coming from engine only when idling, once acceleration given then noise disappears and engine really quiet. Own mechanic has said its terminal without actually knowing what the problem is (could not identify but said it didn't sound good). Not sure whether to get another opinion (can;t afford another car!) or scrap it. Car otherwise very good condition. Help!

I would recommend a second opinion from another tech ... but I have to admit a rattling sound internally does not sound good to me either ..It could be just sticking valve's as they are hydraulic on this vehicle .. but not having heard the sound I cannot really advise you !! A second opinion is the best way to go !! after all a dignosis is usually free !! hope this helps

i got that same sound cuming from engine.
