1999 Renault Scenic Intermittent stalling

1999 Renault Scenic Front Wheel Drive Manual 201000 miles

My v reg scenic has a intermittent stalling problem when the clutch is depressed. It can run fine for a few days and then just stall when you depress the clutch. Was told this could be the fule fillter have changed this and is still the same.

is the check engine light on ? .. start by removing and cleaning or replacing the crankshaft position sensor
